Weee! Kayleigh Hacked the system!
Posted on Tuesday 09 October 2007

While the body of James Turner, Publicity officer, lies ill and groan-y I have taken it upon myself to submit a news post!

We have a meeting tomorrow (or, in five minutes, today) and it's important that a) the freshers know where to go and b) that the regulars are aware of the changes afoot.

The taster session on Saturday went exceptionally well and I'm glad so many people enjoyed the manga but we did have a notable shortage of our regular members. We are still alive guys and we did not mean to forsake you!

The meeting tomorrow will be at 2 until 5 at the Chaplaincy Centre this is an hour earlier than last year but just think of it as giving you a chance to go out drinking! Or to study up for seminars the next day *shakes fist at her anthology of Romanticism*

Just as a note (and because I can't stop plugging the library) if you finish a manga and cant go for one meeting without concluding the story, e-mail me and I will bring any other mangas you request so long as you also return the ones you took out. My e-mail is lumaslibrary@gmail.com!

Hope to see you tomorrow! WEEEE!!!

Reminder: taster session today
Posted on Saturday 06 October 2007

Just to remind everyone, in about two hours the LUMAS taster session will kick off in Furness Lecture Theatre 1. It will be a frankly fantastic mix of anime shorts running from 12:00 'til 17:00. The playing schedule is as follows:

12:00 - CLAMP in Wonderland
12:05 - Final Fantasy VII: Last Order
12:30 - Voices of a Distant Star
13:00 - Break
13:15 - FAKE
14:15 - Break
14:30 - Magnetic Rose
15:15 - Magic School Luna
15:25 - The Animatrix, 'Program' and 'Beyond'
15:50 - Break
16:05 - Petshop of Horrors
16:45 - She and her Cat

You are free to come and leave at any moment, depending on which of those turn you on or off. If you are new to anime then I'd recommend you sample them all, as they give as wide a view of anime as we could arrange and I believe we got every genre except sports.

The Manga Library will also be on display for your reading pleasure whether you have signed up for it or not. Yes, all 200+ (we'll get a proper number when we can be bothered to count again) volumes will be there, so check it out.

Hope to see you all there.

And we hath arisen anew
Posted on Friday 05 October 2007

See? Updates DO come, it just takes an awful long time. So welcome back!

We hope everyone had a fantastic summer, because we know we didn't. Low-paid or not-paid or even non-existent jobs made everyone's morale low; so after a massive period of three days (one and a half in my case) we were all ready to come 'home' again and get studying. Yeah, not entirely sure we expected that sort of attitude when we were 17, either.

The good news in regard to our impatient waiting for the new term is that we poured all our enthusiasm into LUMAS. So, you'll note, a re-worked website which is a shed-load more efficient than the last one. Visually, only the navigation bar has moved, but this allowed for various pieces of code to be streamlined (meaning faster loading, yay!) and means there is less wasted white space on each page (meaning faster reading, yay!). There are a couple of formatting errors to correct here and there, ones you probably haven't even notice but bug me to hell, but otherwise it is totally trendy.

The manga library has breached the two-hundredth volume, with more and more of our series' being completed, and more and more being begun each week. At only £3.50 for the entire year, I doubt you'll find a better (legal) deal regarding the consumption of manga in any other University.

The sessions now have more organisation to them, meaning only anime that is widely agreed to fall into the 'good' category will be shown this first term. Worry not, those who enjoy coming along to experience new anime no-one has seen before - we intend to phase that in again towards the end of the year when studying and revision must take precedent.

Unfortunately, those who run Furness have decided to be a pain in the ass and made it impossible for us to book our old haunt for Wednesdays (though we were able to secure it Saturdays), so Wednesday sessions will now take place in the Chaplaincy Centre Quiet Room (our group? Quiet room? Hah!), which is not as centrally located as we might like. Apologies for any inconvenience.

So everything is a little new and different, but still the fun society you remember. Rumour has it that even the ever-vigilant Spoiler Duck has undergone a few changes, so now it will be even more perilous to spoil.

You have been warned.

Construction and Tweaks
Posted on Saturday 09 June 2007

Changes in the LUMAS multiverse are 'go'. The manga library page is now fully functional and final. That means the only changes from now on will be the addition and editing of content. Follow the link to the right to view the glory that is a database of Japanese comics. Oh, and ignore the current lack of overviews - that was an addition to the database today and so we need to actually fill them in one at a time, which will be finished soon.

As was pointed out, the exec page was a tad out of date, so it has been made current. Photos will be coming soon to accompany all those letters, so just hang-tight. You could always just come to meetings if you need to see their our pretty faces anytime soon.

As for meetings, this term has now gone into the universal theme of 'finishing stuff off'. No new anime series will be presented for your viewing pleasure, instead we shall merely attempt to get as close to finishing the favourites of this year as we can. Next year the meeting setup is being changed somewhat, and from the preliminaries it seems the changes will make the society much more productive and awesome as a whole. We'll get details to you as soon as we're 100% on all the specifics.

Stay trendy.
